Act 2

Welcome to my GetRight tutorial part 2. In this part I`ll show you how to use GR to download those jpgs that are displayed as an HTML page instead of a jpg picture. If you haven't yet taken a look at the GetRight Act 1 page, I suggest you read it now before you start this one. Let`s begin.

Now I know that there are millions of people out there that go to a site that has a mass of pictures that they want to download with GR, but can`t cause the pictures are displayed as HTML. I hear what your going to say? You can download the HTML pages in the same way as the jpgs but who wants the whole page, seeing as your only after the picture files. This is how it is done........

1. Start GR, save the page, and then process the page. At this point you will see that the processed web page has no jpg files on it only HTML. But where are the jpgs? You know that there are jpgs on the page you just saved but where are they on the list. Firstly, what you will need to do is weed out the disassociate HTML files, i.e the normal web pages not the HTML pictures. Normally pictures are numbered in a sequence or a familiar title pattern like, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc or pica, pica, pica, pica, pica, etc. So select the picture HTML pages.

Example:

Slect the HTML pages that are used to display the images.

2. When you have done that click on Ok and you will see the HTML pages in the download list of GR. Now we have to do something a little different to what we done in Act 1. Highlight the download list in GR by holding down the left mouse button and dragging it over the list. When you have done this goto "File" and select "Export list of selected downloads." Give it a name and then save the list somewhere easy to find i.e c:\list.

Example:

Selct and Export to a list Save as

3. Now that you have exported your GR list you must delete the highlighted HTML pages in the GR download list. Now we need to edit the list that we have saved. Start MS-DOS prompt from the windows start menu and type the word edit. The MS-DOS screen will go blue with a flashing cursor waiting for you to type. What we need to do here is import the list that you saved from GR. So find the list on your hard drive remembering that we put it in C:\list. Goto "File" then "Open," then another menu will appear with a list of directories on your hard drive. Find your file which will have the extension .grx and open it, the list will then appear.

Example:

Find the GetRight download list file list.grx

The opened list.

If you move the scroller bar on down on the right hand side of the DOS window, you will see the list of all the HTML pages that you selected in GR. Keep an eye on the HTML tags, as they will soon read JPG. What we need to do now is change one tiny aspect of the download list. We need to change the term HTML to JPG. This is how we do that. Goto the top of the MS-DOS menu and select "Search" then "Replace." Another small window will open with the options to "Find What?," and "Replace With." In the "Find What" type HTML and in the "Replace With" type JPG. What this will do is find any text that has HTML in it and replaces it with JPG. Click "Replace All" then save the list again by going to "File" and then "Save." This will overwrite the existing GR list, then close the DOS window.

Example:

Go back to GR and import the list back into it. When this is done you will see that all the HTML extensions are changed to jpg. All thats left to do now is let GR download the pictures, and only the pictures alone.
